Dragons at Ironmen

DUL 4 - SHD 1

Duluth surprises Shanghai in the season opener thanks to a fine power display from the middle of a good power hitting lineup.

Game 1 - Duluth 5, Shanghai 4
Babe Ruth and Roger Maris homered in the opener and Joe McGinnity (1-0) went seven innings for the victory. Both homers came off Addie Joss (0-1) while Willie Mays hit his first homer for Shanghai. Al Holland and Armando Benitez finished for the Ironmen.

Game 2 - Shanghai 5, Duluth 2
A four-run fourth against Jim Scott (0-1) was more than enough for the Dragons who bounced back to even the series. Sam Leever (1-0) went 8.1 innings, scattered four hits and allowed one earned run. Mays had three hits and Kaz Sasaki got the last two outs for the save. Ed Yost homered for Duluth.

Game 3 - Duluth 9, Shanghai 6
A five-run seventh helped Duluth rally from a 5-4 deficit for the win. Ruth homered twice and drove in five runs, Maris homered again and John Roseboro homered for Duluth to ice the game. Bill Madlock drove in three and Eric Davis homered for Shanghai. Rube Foster (1-0) picked up the win and Tom House saved. Smokey Joe Wood (0-1) took the loss for the Dragons.

Game 4 - Duluth 5, Shanghai 3
Guy Hecker left the game in the eighth leading 3-2, but Ruth, Maris and Ken Griffey, Jr hit back-to-back-to-back homers to lead Duluth to a third win. Addie Joss (0-2) took the loss for the Dragons. Foster started for Duluth but House (1-0) got the win with Benitez earning the save.

Game 5 - Duluth 7, Shanghai 4
The Bambino hit his fifth homer of the series in the seventh inning as Duluth surprised Shanghai by winning four of five. McGinnity (2-0) worked eight innings and Bill Castro finished up for the save. Shanghai had nine hits but the 5-9 spots in the lineup were a collective 0-for-16 which led to eight stranded runners, many in key positions.

Gunslingers at Immortals

HRG 2 - SOI 3

Opening series of the year.

Hereford comes out storming in game-1 with 5 runs before the first out. They engage cruise control for a 9-0 victory.

Game-2 Southern starter, Ferdie Schupp, fired up from all the bad press by his former manager/owner Mr Morgan, hurls a 2-hit masterpiece with only 1 BB in a 7-0 victory.

Southern coasts to victory in game-3.

Hereford takes a slugfest 16-10 in game-4. 37 hits in the game.

Southern coasts again in game-5 to win the series.

Sorry Jesse. One consolation for you; Vladi was your RBI producer in the series and Rusie lost one of my games. Early trade return favors you :-)

Forever Living at Fishermen

CSF 3 - PFL 2

CASTAIC, Ca -- The Living take advantage of shaky Castaic relief
pitching to take the opening series of the 2002 campaign.

In game one, Living ace Jim Palmer injured his shoulder in the
seventh, and gets the no decision as Castaic, behind solid pitching from
Deacon Phillippe. Fish 2, Living 1.

Game 2 - Solo homers from Frank Robinson and Al Rosen and shutout
pitching from Mike Mussina carry the Living over the Fish 2-0.

Game 3 - Living 4, Fish 3. Lou Gehrig homers as the Living squeak by
the Fish. Two and one third innings of solid relief pitching from M
Rivera seals the victory for Hippo Vaughn.

Game 4 - Jack McDowell picks up the win for Castaic despite poor
bullpen work over the last two innings. Carrying a 7-0 lead into the
eighth, Castaic relievers Aker and Brewer combine to give up 5 runs in
the last two innings before Bruce Sutter shuts the door with 2 outs in
the 9th to pick up the save. Castaic bats finally wake up and pound out
13 hits and Garvey smacks the first homer for the Fish this season.
Fish 7, Living 5.

Game 5 - Two runs are not a big enough lead for Castaic relievers in
the 9th, as they give up 6 runs to Living bats and the Fish fall 7-3.
Musial and Gehrig homer for the Living and M Rivera picks up the relief
win. Garvey and Hebner homer is the losing cause. Living 7, Fish 3.
