Heisler Park—Home of the Long Ball? Not for Laguna!

Ty Cobb steals one of two bases in game 3 against the Redstorm Renegades.

Laguna Beach—The balls are flying out of Heisler Park with reasonable consistency—but off of the bats of opposing teams! 23 homers have been lofted into the Pacific from visiting team sluggers, while Legend bats have mustered a mere 8!
Game 1 With two outs and no hits on either side going into the fourth inning, a Klein single and Mize double to the corner in right combine for a run as the Renegades take the lead. In the bottom half of the inning the Legends retaliate with four runs on five singles, two errors and a hit batter, Reggie Jackson - who left the game. In the fifth, Cecil Cooper is thrown out trying to score from third on a Lollar grounder to Joe Tinker at short. But after Snuffy walks, Richie Zisk skewers one into the gap in right field scoring Lollar and Miller. The sixth inning saw Cecil Cooper go long with a two-run, two out shot to right. Another run in the seventh as Klein singles up the middle to plate Zisk.
Game 2 With Reggie Jackson taking the day off recovering from getting hit the day before, Walker Cooper takes over in the cleanup spot, and claiming it as his own with a double in the second inning, scoring on a single by Buddy Lewis. Hunt delivers a swinging bunt to move him over, and Lewis scores on Joe Tinkers single to left. Clemente scores in the fourth on a wild Pitch by Jim Kern, but catcher Sherm Lollar on a heads-up play nails Ron Hunt trying to take third. Ginger Beaumont knocks the first of two singles in the fifth inning as the Legends bat around. Cobb follows up with a hit & run single moving Beaumont to third. Ty steals second, and Kern walks George Sisler to load the bases. Buddy Lewis gets two of three RBI on a single to right. With the infield in, Clemente squirts one by shortstop Miller scoring Walker Cooper. Duke Robinson Jr. brings in Jay Howell to pitch for Kern. Lewis scores on an infield single by Tinker, bringing Beaumont to the plate again. Ginger singles scoring Clemente, but is thrown out attempting to steal to end the inning. The Mize/Klein combination scores another in the sixth, and it looked like a rally as Weimer walk two more before retiring Hendrick on a grounder to Tinker. Hunt knocks in Lewis in the seventh with a double to continue the carnage.

Game 3 Kent Williams took over the reins for Holbrook for games 3, 4 and 5 on a ccount of time restraints over a very busy weekend. Ty Cobb nabs another base as the Legends tally 5 runs on 10 hits to win game 3.
Game 4 Monty Ward and Howie Camnitz combine to give up six home runs in this bloodbath, two apiece by Bob Johnson and Chuck Klein. One bright spot for the Legends is on defense as Tinker and Sisler come together for three double plays!
Game 5 With a 2-1 lead in going into the ninth, Duke Jr. brings in Jim Kern to close the game for Cole. The Legends take advantage of an off night and come from behind to win in the bottom of the ninth!
